i was disappointed in the ending. i felt it was rather weak and was solved just a bit too neatly. i really wanted Keselo, Rabbit and Longbow to remain friends and have Adventures. i wanted Narasan and HookBeak to also remain friends and have Adventures. they just made a nice little threesome and to me, it just negated the whole set up of "toss them together and they'll get along fine" that the previous 3 books had set up.
i definitely did not want Narasan to marry Trenicia nor did i feel it was appropriate that he do so. the first 3 books set up the fact that Narasan was a Career Man and wasn't interested in a relationship. it seemed that the whole "Career Man" thing was one of the reasons that HookBeak and Narasan got along so well in the first place. They understood each others' first loves' were HookBeak's ship and Narasan's command.
i'm ok with Narasan becoming Emperor and HookBeak being ... eh, Special Envoy of... or Diplomat to.. or Vice Emperor or something that would signify his relationship with Narasan, but ... Narasan and the Wild Warrior Woman?
no, no and no. ish. gross. if nothing else, the ending made *that* impossible.
now we get to the Ara/Omago thing. i had Ara pegged as the physical/human embodiment of Mother Sea and Omago as Father Earth. in fact, that made more sense to me that the whole "universe" thing. if you're running a universe, shouldn't you have more interesting things to do than hang out with a bunch of (by their own admission) primitive lifeforms? just a thought. i couldn't buy the fact that they new each other "before time" and then consciously chose to spend that much time in a primitive (again, by Ara's opinion) form.
i have other thoughts but they'll have to wait. for now. i might finish this later tonight if i have time.
